Joel has over 25 years of experience leading senior living communities in a range of executive capacities. He has built a reputation within the field of aging services as a passionate and values-driven leader and progressive thinker. Repeatedly, Joel has a proven record of building successful teams, orchestrating complex financial and operational turnarounds, and leading new strategic growth.
Policy and Industry Leadership
- Actively led several public policy initiatives for senior living, such as writing and passing the first legislation in Kentucky for assisted living; helped pass two major legislative reform bills for continuing care retirement communities, also known as life plan communities, with members of the Florida Legislature
- Appointed to the Assisted Living Federation of America’s action team to provide quality-driven guidelines for state governments and associations in regulating assisted living
- Served on multiple task forces as an expert in continuing care retirement communities and Florida’s laws and regulations involving life plan communities
- Elected to the board of trustees with LeadingAge Florida; elected board chairman from 2019-2021

- Bachelor of Business Administration, and Master of Arts in Public Policy, Aging, and Management from the Erickson School, University of Maryland, Baltimore
- Licensed Florida Administrator (NHA)
- Twice appointed by Florida Governor Rick Scott to the state’s Continuing Care Advisory Council, where he served as chair from 2017-2020
- Spokesperson for AARP in the promotion and growth of assisted living communities across the United States
- Two-time recipient of a Kentucky Colonel award for his outstanding citizenship and service to senior living
- LeadingAge Florida, the prestigious Chairman’s Award and Advocate of the Year
